Breckenridge 2008: Foster Family Reunion III

All kidding aside, I want the Master Bedroom.
(Actually, I am just kidding.)

Okay, here's a tentative sketch of the Breckenridge happenings. Assignments are in CAPS after the events. For your assignments, remember to include ways for everyone to be involved, especially the kiddos.

Please comment on this post about your thoughts or additions, and then I'll make a revised schedule.

June 10: When is everybody actually arriving in Denver?

Wed, June 11:
Morning: one group of intrepid climbers leaves early to climb a Fourteener in the Breckenridge vicinity. (Ty, you're in charge of this activity since it was your brilliant idea. Randy might have some good input on a good half-day summit hike.)
Afternoon: The other group leaves Denver later in the day and arrives in Breckenridge by 4 pm, sets up the cabin, gets dinner ready.
Evening/Night: Settling into the cabin, just hanging out. I suggest roasting marshmallows and marinating in the hot tub.

Thurs, June 12:
Morning: Family Nature Hike MARGARET
Afternoon: Hangin' Out
Evening: Foosball Tourney MICK
Night: Campfire Concert MARK/ELIZABETH

Fri, June 13:
Morning: Whiffle Ball or Kick Ball Tourney DREW/KRISTEN
Afternoon: Hangin' Out
Evening: Family Karaoke Concert MATT/WENDI
Night: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of . . . (Is it just me, or is this a lame title?) MEGAN

Sat, June 14:
Morning: Outdoor game (more like "Mole Hunt", less like "Cold War") TY/DANA
Afternoon: Afternoon in Breckenridge (Concert? Museums?) JEFF/ANGIE
Evening: Hangin' Out
Night: Stargazing trek ADAM/LAURA

Sun, June 15 (Father's Day):
Morning: Yummy Breakfast for the Dads
9 am Family Devotional ADAM/LAURA
Clean up cabin DREW/KRISTEN/MEGAN (by themselves)
Out the door by 11 am (Worland Fosters at least need to be on the road by 11 am. How about everybody else?)

Lots of fun things, several competitions, daily outdoor activities, and plenty of downtime. In a word, brilliant. At least that's what I think. How about you?

In other words, if you have read this far, please take the time to comment on it.
Like right now.

I thought it sounded perfect, until I came upon the clean up. All I would want you to change is deleting our names and insert your name only, and maybe Mickey's.

I like it. Kristen and I might not be able to get there until Wednesday night late because of a class that I have to go to. We will figure it our soon.

Well as usual, Marcus as done a superb job in outlining some actitivies. It looks good to me basically. However,if I might, I have a few thoughts.

I believe Mom and I and Megan and whomever else wants to will be getting up to the house sometime in mid afternoon around 3 or so. I won't be going on a hike if Ty gets that going (great idea by the way) so we can get settled into the cabin for when everyone can get there. Everyone tell us what you ETA is so we'll have some idea. Apparently, Drew and Kristen won't get there till 10 or 11 or something like that. Everyone else? Ty and Dana what did you say your plans were for a car? Do you need us to pick you up or were you going to rent one and when are you guys going back? We can take both the Van and my company car up there so you can have the van while you are here if you want to and we could take you to the airport on your way back.

1) Don't know if Jeff's new CD will be out by then (probably not) but I would like to hear some of the stuff from that. Not sure when we could work that in or maybe you will do it as part of your concert, but I'd like to encourage that at least.

2)They have quite a few board games up there...some in pretty bad shape with so much use. During some of the hang times I'm sure there will be some game playing going on so should we bring some up from Denver? Need cards for a good Nertz game or two also. Not sure they have some up there.

3)I think we should all bring some DVDs that we like. Some for the kids maybe, but maybe later at night we could get in a couple of good movies. Not sure we should count on Indiana Jones as I'm not even sure what the movie theater situation is in Breckenridge. Meggie...check that out.

4) We will have to find a place for the Whiffle ball or kick ball tournament as there is no real good open space near the house. We can find a park or something like that.

5)We need to bring lots of walkie talkies for the outdoor game or whatever you come up with. Anyone who has some, make sure and bring them or borrow them from someone. We have two. Maybe we could play something like Monster Mash except we probably don't have enough kids old enough.

6)I like the idea of Kristen,Drew and Megan cleaning up. Add Dana and Laura to that and that should speed it up some!!

7) We all need to be out of there by around noon or 1 p.m. so your 11a.m. target is pretty good. We need to leave the place pretty clean but Sis. Jensen will have someone come in after we leave to do the laundry and stuff. Mom and I will get the rules we have to live by from the Jensens so we will know what we need to do.

8) We need everyone taking pictures and getting them to Jeff throughout the 4 days so he can compile our family CD of this event. Not sure we can have it before we leave on Sunday, but he needs all the pics as we go through the 4 days.

9) Can you crank in a hour or so to officially put a Family Council sometime on Saturday maybe. Would like to do this every time we are together. I'll conduct that.

10) We need to get a family picture taken at some point with everyone in it. Would like to do this professionally but probably can't get it here, so we will have to do the best we can. Mom and I will get blow ups (8 X 11) for something like that for everyone sometime after we get back.

11) There is a City Market within about 10 minutes so we should be able to get whatever we need. Probably a bit cheaper in Denver so we should take up a lot of the staple like stuff and maybe buy the rest there. They have two refrigerators so we should have room.

12) As my job per your agenda, I will organize a Foosball and a pool tournament so we will need to be flexible with our athletic skills. We will be playing 2 person teams and we will.....I repeat, will not be playing with our spouses so get ready for that.

Alright I like what I see. But I must add a twist. I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and well frankly it was pretty bad. I know that this family is not going to enjoy what Indy is giving us. I suggest that we all go see Narina instead. Me, Mom, Dad, Adam and Laura all saw it and throughly enjoyed it. But I will do whatever the family wants me to do. I would not recommend Indiana Jones to anyone but I know that everyone is going to see it anyways, so we might as well go as a family. Whatever everyone decides, but I am willing to stay home and babysit. Yes, I am passing up a free movie. It was indeed that bad.

I propose that Drew/Kristen/Megan be relieved from solo clean up duty and be assigned the "mole hunt, not cold war" game on Saturday morning in place of Ty and Dana. I am going to plan the hike on Wednesday and Dana is assigning all the meals, so we are already having our cake....wouldn't want to eat it too.

Drew/Kristen/Megan will devise a great game, I'm sure

As far as the 14er hike on Wednesday is concerned, I have concocted duel schemes for summit hikes. The scheme that is implemented will depend on the degree of glory my fellow hikers would like to achieve. There are two options:

1. Hard and Glorious

2. Less hard and less glorious.

In a little more detail, here are the options again.

1. Hard and Glorious. Mt. Elbert: at 14,433 ft high, it is the highest altitude achievable in CO, that's right #1; all others are #2 or lower. The hike is about 9 miles round trip with 4700 ft vertical gain. This would be a challenging but very rewarding hike. The trailhead is less than an hour from Breckenridge. We would start very early on Wednesday and hopefully be to Breckenridge by 5:00 pm or so. Think of the glory!

2. Less hard and less glorious. Quandry Peak: at 14,265 ft the hike is 7 miles round trip with a vertical climb of 3450 ft. It is also closer to Breckenridge so we could start later and probably be in by 4:00 pm. It also looks like a great mountain, but as I mentioned, it is in the #2 or lower category. As I see it, why climb K2 when you can climb Everest?

Please let me know what you think and if you would like to go on the hike.

It all sounds great! Laura and I are going to organized the greatest star gazing hike that any of you have ever experienced.

Ty,
Laura and I are in for the hike. We would like to make the point that after a long hike like that you are sore the next day or two. We are willing to do either, but I think we would prefer Quandry. Why do Everest when K2 is so much easier?

Everyone,
Kristen and I are not sure when we will be there, but we would like to climb a fourteener. Classes might stop us, more details to come. Also, I am going to plan the second manliest man competition, so I can once again prove my manliness. I will plan it and will take any suggestions into consideration, but no promises. Everything else sounds great.

One more thing, if your suggestion is throwing knives, forget it... maybe

Ehhxcellent plans... Good times will be had by all.

I think the hike would be fun but I'm not sure if that will work for us with our kids. Ty and Dana, are you guys both going, or what are you doing with Max and Kelly during the hike?

Dana, we'd like to cook a dinner if it's not too late to put in requests.

Mark, I'll take you on at foosball. I play a mean game of foosball...

Goose said...

Ok, one more thing. What about a classic match-up on of the days. Or maybe the book end match up. All I'm saying is any ball y'all!

Adam voted for Quandary Peak and Mark has voted for Mt Elbert. My vote is also for Mt. Elbert Anyone else have an opinion? Who else is planning on going? Matt? Megan?

Angie,

Dana is not planning on going on the hike, so I am going to dump all of the child care responsibilities onto her able shoulders. I feel kind of bad about it, but I will make it up to her. I'm sure there would be willing baby sitters among those who are not going up if you think your kids could handle it...

Tyler,
I would really like to go on the hike. Joy and Grant are pretty self sufficient but I would need someone to really keep an eye on Justin. Would anyone enjoy getting to know our little birthday boy better? If so, count me in on the hike. Mt. Elbert sounds just fine.
